Locking pliers are pliers with an "over-center" cam action that may be locked into place. Locking pliers come in a variety of jaw designs, including needle-nose pliers, wrenches, clamps, and varied forms, and are used to secure metal parts. They are also available in a variety of sizes. Based on the "over-center" principle, locking pliers remain fastened to an object without requiring continual pressure on the handles.
